Ayurveda Fundamentals

Ayurveda is the pioneer of medicine made by elements of nature. This branch of medicine was introduced thousands and thousands of years ago. Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words “ayur," meaning life, and "veda," meaning science. The exact meaning stands as "science of life". This system of medicine helps the person to heal both internally and externally. Ayurveda helps the person to balance his mind, body, and spirit perfectly.

Philosophy of Ayurveda

The philosophy of Ayurveda functions based on the five elements of nature – air, water, fire, space, and earth. These energies transfer their power into the human body and help them treat diseases and heal internally.

Ayurveda is such an interesting branch that it helps intermix and blend our modern lifestyle and traditional healing measures. Generally, this branch of medicine involves the usage of herbs. It creates a beautiful state of a healthy body and mind blending the powers of the universe and the human body. As most of the sources of physical discomfort generate from our minds, certain medicinal herbs help relax our minds and improve physical strength.

Basics of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is purely an Indian invention. Further, in 1976, WHO (World Health Organisation) officially recognized Ayurveda as a form of treatment, and gradually this branch of medicine became famous worldwide.

Ayurveda divides the human body into 3 types:

  • Vata consists of air and space
  • Pitta consists of fire and water
  • Kapha consists of earth and water

Vata is considered the energy required for movement, pitta is the energy of metabolism and digestion, and kapha is the energy of structure and lubrication.

Treatment through Ayurveda

The practitioner creates certain stages or plans for the patient's treatment by observing his conditions. These procedures include:

  • Diet Chart: Food habits or a diet plan are prime reasons for a person's health. If a person is suffering from any physical ailment that involves his daily food habits, then his diet is changed by the practitioner. Light food rich in vitamins and minerals helps in restoring energy and curing this type of physical ailment. In addition, home-cooked healthy meals with less oil and spices are quite effective in restoring physical health.
  • Detoxification: This procedure includes fasting, treating bodies, and consuming certain herbs or medicines that will help cleanse all the toxins. These toxins harm the body internally and become the reason for physical ailments. Therefore, by the procedure of detoxification and cleansing, the internal treatment of the body is done.
  • Herbal Medicine: Treatment of physical and mental treatments is done with the help of herbal medicines. The practitioners prescribe the medicines according to the ailments or diseases of the patients.
  • Exercise or Yoga: One of the best forms of treatment is yoga. Yoga helps in balancing the mind and body perfectly. It is not only effective in the case of physical discomfort but also helps in relaxing the mind.
